TESTS REQUIREMENTS – TURNAROUND TIME (TAT)
S = Serum, P= Plasma, WB = Whole Blood.
Blood Containers (vacutainers):
  • Light Green Top: Lithium heparin with gel (LH- PST): 4.5 and 1 ml (paediatric).
  • Red Top: No additive, Plain: 4.5 ml and 1 ml (pediatric).
  • Golden Top (SST): Gel separator. No additive: 3.5, 4.5 and 7 mls.
  • Lavender Top: EDTA anticoagulant: 2 and 4.5 mls.
  • TAT= Turnaround time in HOURS, R= Routine, S= STAT

    Blood Glucose
    Fasting - Random S, SST, 3ml 4 hrs 1 hr Overnight fasting 10 – 14 hrs
    2hrs post prandial S, SST, 3ml 4 hrs 1 hr Sample taken 2 hrs after a meal
    Glucose Tolerance Test-GTT S, SST, 3ml 6 hrs Fasting overnight 10-14 hrs. First fasting blood and urine samples are obtained. Immediately oral glucose solution is taken by the patient. Blood and urine samples are repeated exactly 1 and 2 hrs after glucose solution intake.

    ENZYMES: CK, CK-MB, LDH, AST, ALT, GGT, ALK. PHOSP. S, SST, 5ml 4 hrs 1 hr Single or as groups
    AMYLASE S, SST, 3ml 4 hrs 1 hr
